And after some debate…here’s what you’ve all been waiting for – the top 5 most unusual dresses on the planet!

5. The Birdcage Dress

Created by abstract artist Kasey McMahon, this is not just a dress that resembles a birdcage. It is an actual fully functional birdcage. Unusual dresses are taken to another level here, and I love it! So if you’re going on a night out and wanna dress a little quirky (to say the least), but can’t bear leaving your precious parrots alone…then i guess you can kill two birds with one stone, if you excuse the pun!

4. The Emotion-Sensitive Dress

There’ll be no more hiding your emotions behind that hat and scarf. It’s time to show everyone how your feeling. This unique dress, designed by Philips, will actually show everyone how your feeling! If you’re stressed or angry it turns red, but if you’re calm and relaxed it goes green. With 2 layers, the under one senses your emotion by measuring sweat and body temperature, and in turn signals the outer layer to alter its colour. Amazing!

3. The Meat Dress

Designed by who? I don’t know. But coming across this glamorous garment online, which brings a whole new meaning to treating women like they’re a piece of meat, I couldn’t avoid putting it up here in the world’s most unusual dresses. It is, afterall, pretty unusual. And I must mention that I’m loving the 80s hair-do! Those were the days…

2. The Condom Dress

And as we get further into the wierd and the wacky, these unusually unusual dresses made entirely from condoms now destroy that subtle suggestion of sex’ our tight-fitting outfits used to project. Now it’s pretty blunt. But somehow I think that, even though most men are driven by their johnsons, they may be a little put off by one of these. Why not test this theory? I dare you.

1. The  Porcelain Dress

Finally we come to the most unusual dress on the planet! Not only is it unusual, but it is absolutely stunning – in an alice-in-wonderland, fairytale-tea party-type way. This masterpiece, designed by Li Xiaoufeng, is made entirely out of porcelain and I only wish that I was strong enough to wear it.

It’s been a tricky process deciding what are the top 10 most unusual dresses, with all the spectacular and crazy designs to choose from. But I’ve come to a decision finally. Let’s see if you agree with me. So here’s the 10th most unusual dress down to the 5th….Enjoy!

10. The Wooden Dress

Designed by Grace Johnston, this fantastic dress is made completely out of bent and laminated wood, apart from the nuts and bolts used to fix it all together. Not only does this cool outfit look like one of the most unusual dresses you ever saw, it also gives you the ability to curtsy by tugging on the metal rings at the side – raising the lower part of the dress up! How proper!

9. The Phonebook Dress

Have you ever found that your phonebook is just a big heavy waste of space that you never use for anything? Well it seems now that there’s another use for it – creating very cool, very unusual dresses! You’d need to be as artistically skillful as the designer who made this amazing masterpiece by hand, Jolis Paons. Otherwise you might end up looking just like a homeless girl with scrap paper rapped around you for warmth!

8. The Duct Tape Dress

When designers are mulling over what sleek, sexy or glamorous materials to use for their next dress, most of them will not think about duct tape, or anything close to it. This couple, Adrienne Beiler and Zach Cupler, however, are all dressed up for their highschool prom in outfits made entirely from duct tape – and could win 9000 dollars if they get chosen as the winners of the Duck Brand Duct Tape ‘Stuck at the Prom” contest. A very interesting competition, if you’re into unusual dresses!  

7. The Balloon Dress

If Duct Tape isn’t your thing – why not try balloons!? This Korean designer has created some amazingly unique and unusual dresses completely out of inflated balloons. As you can see, they look awesome! I would definitely wear one of these, and I bet you’d be light on your feet too…just don’t go near any sharp objects!

6. The Recycled Paper Dress

And what better a way to help preserve the environment than making a dress out of all your used rappers, plastic bags and paper packaging? Especially if you can look as unbelievable as this! Again i can imagine my own home-made version of this going horribly wrong… so I think I’ll leave these crazy, funky, wierd dresses up to the talented designers and professionals who made them.

And let’s face it, we all wanna get noticed.

Unusual dresses are your ticket to this shining place. This place where you can truly express yourself through the way you look, reflect your inner personality on the outside and at the same time have all eyes on you. Whether you have a formal ‘do’ coming up, the prom, a wedding, a vacation in Spain, a romantic evening with your other half or just a regular saturday night out on the town with all your gal pals…I’m sure that most of you are gonna wanna look special and perhaps steal the limelight for the night.

So unusual dresses will get you noticed, but how do you make sure you get noticed in a good way? What kind of unique evening wear dresses can you find? And which ones should you go for?
